Fréchet distance with speed limits

چکیده
In this paper, we introduce a new generalization of the well-known Fréchet distance between two polygonal curves, and provide an efficient algorithm for computing it. The classical Fréchet distance between two polygonal curves corresponds to the maximum distance between two point objects that traverse the curves with arbitrary non-negative speeds. Here, we consider a problem instance in which the speed of traversal along each segment of the curves is restricted to be within a specified range. We provide an efficient algorithm that decides in O(n logn) time whether the Fréchet distance with speed limits between two polygonal curves is at most ε, where n is the number of segments in the curves, and ε > 0 is an input parameter. We then use our solution to this decision problem to find the exact Fréchet distance with speed limits in O(n log n) time.

Computing Fréchet Distance with Speed Limits
In this paper, we study a problem on computing the Fréchet distance between two polygonal curves and provide efficient solutions for solving it. In the classical Fréchet distance, point objects move arbitrarily fast on the polygonal curves. Here, we consider the problem instance where the speed per segment is a constant within a specified range. We first describe a naive algorithm which solves ...
متن کاملApplied Similarity Problems Using Frechet Distance
The Fréchet distance is a well-known metric to measure similarity of polygonal curves. In the first part of this thesis, we introduce a new metric called Fréchet distance with speed limits and provide efficient algorithms for computing it. The classical Fréchet distance between two curves corresponds to the maximum distance between two point objects that traverse the curves with arbitrary non-n...
متن کاملSpeed-constrained geodesic fréchet distance inside a simple polygon
Given two polygonal curves inside a simple polygon, we study the problem of finding the Fréchet distance between the two curves under the following two conditions (i) the distance between two points on the curves is measured as the length of the shortest path between them lying inside the simple polygon, and (ii) the traversal along each segment of the polygonal curves is restricted to be betwe...
متن کاملDetecting Commuting Patterns by Clustering Subtrajectories
In this paper we consider the problem of detecting commuting patterns in a trajectory. For this we search for similar subtrajectories. To measure spatial similarity we choose the Fréchet distance and the discrete Fréchet distance between subtrajectories, which are invariant under differences in speed. We give several approximation algorithms, and also show that the problem of finding the ‘longe...
متن کاملAn Efficient Query Algorithm for Trajectory Similarity Based on Fréchet Distance Threshold
The processing and analysis of trajectories are the core of many location-based applications and services, while trajectory similarity is an essential concept regularly used. To address the time-consuming problem of similarity query, an efficient algorithm based on Fréchet distance called Ordered Coverage Judge (OCJ) is proposed, which could realize the filtering query with a given Fréchet dist...
